The project is born from the combination of two very different worlds, the medicine world and the instrumental music one. A perfect blend that gives to this known object, a new mindset that turn it into something new. The subject under discussion is the stethoscope, an essential medical instrument since 1816.

The aim of this project is the hacking of a very small useful object which will be transformed from analog to digital. Internal and external sounds. Stetosound will allow to listen and to record almost every imperceptible body sounds. The movement of a joint, the heartbeat, the kick of a child in the mother's belly 🤰
We decided to hack the stethoscope by spliting it into two parts: the bell as a component that captures and amplifies the sound, while the other element placed at the beginning of the tube bifurcation (near the sternum) offering the possibility to connect two 3.5 mm jack to a recorder or to a smartphone, and the other to a pair of headphones to listen to the sound while it is recorded.
The stethoscope hacking, by itself as a technical sound inspection tool, through its digitization, makes it possible to find deserts sounds, useful for musical sampling. These sounds can not be recorded with traditional panoramic field microphones - or "visible" sounds, that it's possible to record and play in other variant, picking the sound differently, more internally, highlighting the properties of the material.
